The RPS Inspiration Award given to six online music groups
By rights, it ought to have been a quiet year, with the pandemic closing concert halls and leaving so many musicians without work. But it turns out music cannot be locked down, as illustrated by the deluge of music offerings that quickly surfaced from the nation’s homes, online, and even on our streets. Planning for the annual RPS Awards, the Royal Philharmonic Society decided to honour the many selfless, inventive musicians who made this happen, and invited the public to nominate what had musically inspired them during lockdown. 2,761 nominations later, the RPS chose six winners, plus a further 19 commendees, for its new Inspiration Award. Together their efforts prove how much the nation needs music at times like these. Here’s a glimpse into the winning entries, and you can watch the complete RPS Awards on the Royal Philharmonic Society website.
