Mayor's Music Fund Playing Day

We recently supported the Mayor's Music Fund's Playing Day at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, a day devoted to composition and creative workshops that provided an opportunity for performers at all stages of learning to meet other like-minded young people and share their experiences of being a Mayor’s Music Fund scholar.

Taking inspiration from the London Marathon, the ensemble was led by animateur Lincoln Abbotts (ABRSM's Director of Strategic Development) in creating a 20 minute performance piece that included sections of improvisation, ensemble playing and solo performances. The lively three-hour workshop culminated in a performance for family, friends and Mayor’s Music Fund supporters.

As the first cohort of Mayor's Music Fund scholars approach their final term, the event also provided a wonderful opportunity for friends and family to see the progress that their child had made throughout their four years of tuition.

What is the Mayor's Music Fund?

The Mayor’s Music Fund is a charity that began operations in 2011 to address the middle ground between group sessions at school and continued advancement as a musician, increasing access to individual lessons and ensembles. Their vision is that every child who demonstrates significant musical ability, enthusiasm and commitment to learning an instrument is given the opportunity to develop their potential.

ABRSM offers Mayor's Music Fund scholarships to twelve talented young London musicians, contributing £12,500 a year to their tuition.
